Description
The Charpoi Candle Stands are made of the legs of the Charpoi daybed.
The Charpoi bed is the traditional sleeping surface of India,
Pakistan and Bangladesh. Char means 4 in Hindi so it basically a bed
with four legs. The bed itself is elegantly simple in its design.
Four wooden legs support an open rectangular structure that is filled
in with a tightly woven network of ropes or chords.
In Pakistan the ropes are often made of jute, in other areas the
bindings are for example made of coir, a fibre taken from coconut
husks. The makers of the Charpoi bed create beautiful designs and
patterns in the weave. The candle stands are made from the legs of
old broken beds. Because of the pin in the leg of the bed, it can
easily hold a candle. Sizes and models vary.
