Description

These balcony strutts are from Gujarat in India. Used at haveli’s (courtyard houses) or temples. Gujarat is known for its array of profusely carved columns, struts (angled supports), arches, doors, windows and balconies. The wood used to construct these houses & temples was imported into the region by sea as Gujarat is not a highly-wooded area. Most of the heavily-carved buildings in the region are half-timbered; a hybrid of wooden frames and brick walls. The overhanging first floor or the upper veranda of the buildings are held up by pillars and large elaborately carved struts like this one.

We travel through India to find the most beautiful and unique items we can find. These products we found in abandoned factories, land washed ships, vintage local markets or other places that we have discovered. We restore, recycle and redesign the interior treasures that we find while preserving the story of their past. Our mission is to pass them on to a new home where they will be appreciated for many years to come.
